Palmer College HEERF approval

Overview
As a result of Congress passing the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) allocated $6 billion to colleges nationwide to provide direct assistance to enrolled students. Palmer College of Chiropractic applied and was approved for $404,695 in HEERF grant funding to assist eligible students.

Based on the subsequent guidance from the U.S. Department of Education, students who are Title IV eligible under section 484 of the Higher Education Act, and have expenses such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and/or child-care related to campus disruptions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible for HEERF grant funds.

HEERF Grant Federal Grant Reporting Requirements
1. Palmer College of Chiropractic has signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement with the assurance that the institution intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
2. Palmer received $404,695 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
3. As of July 10, 2020 a total of $361,575 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants have been distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
4. Palmer College of Chiropractic estimated 1,800 students were eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
5. As of July 10, 2020, at total of 1,601 students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
6. Palmer took a block grant approach, providing an equal opportunity for eligible students to receive HEERF Grant assistance. Given the number of eligible students and the student allocation, Palmer made a one-time $225 grant available to each eligible student under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
7. An initial notification of the funding approval was announced to students April 28, 2020. A HEERF Grant FAQ was announced and made public May 7, 2020 and applications for eligible students were made available to students on May 18, 2020. Distribution of HEERF Grants started on May 21, 2020.
