West campus selects new Student California Chiropractic Assn. officers

Palmer College of Chiropractic’s West campus in San Jose, Calif., recently selected new executive officers for its student chapter of the California Chiropractic Association (SCCA).

New West Student CCA officers include (from left): Tony Lam, treasurer/assistant event coordinator; Wren Burton, vice president/communications; Robbie Butler, president; Ryan Deighan, vice president/membership; and Adrian Galindo, secretary.

New officers include:

  • President: Robbie Butler (Ft. Collins, Colo.)

Butler is a 2017 University of Rhode Island (URI) graduate (B.S., kinesiology) who entered the Palmer West program later that year.

In addition to his position as president of the Palmer West SCCA chapter, he also serves as Associated Student Government class-representative, and is an executive officer of the Palmer West Sports Council, as well as the West student-chapter of the American Chiropractic Association (SACA).

In his first four quarters at Palmer West, Butler has earned multiple scholarships, including the Dr. William Gallagher Memorial Scholarship, and the TruSpine Chiropractic Scholarship (which is sponsored by 2013 Palmer West alumnus Supreet Shah, D.C., CCSP®, who maintains a practice at Truspine in San Francisco).

  • Vice President/Membership: Ryan Deighan (Pawtucket, Rhode Island)

Deighan also is a 2017 URI graduate (B.S., kinesiology) who entered the Palmer program with the Fall ’17 class. In addition to his SCCA officer position, he also plays on the Palmer West ice hockey team, and is active with several other student clubs and organizations, including the Sports Council and Rehab 2 Performance.

While attending URI, Deighan served as Director of Recruitment and New Member Education for the Interfraternity Council, where he managed oversight of the recruitment process for URI’s 14 fraternities (consisting of approximately 1,500 members).

  • Vice President/Communications: Wren Burton (Kalamazoo, Mich.)

Burton is a 2017 graduate of the University of New England (B.S, kinesiology), who also is a 4th Quarter student at Palmer West. While attending UNE, she served as a resident advisor, teaching assistant for anatomy and physiology. In addition to her SCCA role, Burton also is an active member of the West SACA chapter, and is a chiropractic assistant at Custom Chiropractic in Santa Clara.

  • Treasurer/Ass’t Event Coordinator: Tony Lam (Union City, Calif.)

Lam graduated from San Francisco State University in 2015 (B.S., kinesiology). In addition to his SCCA position, the 4th Quarter student also is an active member of the Palmer West Sports Council.

  • Secretary: Adrian Galindo (Hollister, Calif.)

Galindo is a 2016 graduate of Biola University (B.S., exercise physiology) who also serves as an assistant event coordinator for the West Sports Council.

New West SCCA President Robbie Butler (far right) attended the 2017 CCA Legislative Day event in Sacramento with fellow West SCCA colleagues (from left) Emma Eskilson, Brian Wang, Jamahl Gow, Kyle Siskar and Brian DeCesare.

“The Palmer West Student CCA chapter features a new board of executive officers who bring a fresh perspective and an eager enthusiasm to get involved,” said Butler.

“All of the new officers are first-year students, and we plan on continuing the tradition of involvement and advocation by Palmer West’s Student CCA chapter. We recognize the importance of getting involved as students with our professional associations, at the state and national levels, and look forward to sharing our ‘voice’ on behalf of our fellow future doctors.”
