Davenport campus honors its veterans
Palmer’s Davenport campus honored its veterans during a special Veterans Day Recognition on November 11. The event, which is co-sponsored by Vickie Palmer, has become a Palmer tradition.
Guest speakers included 5th trimester student and Palmer Veteran’s Club Treasurer Matthew Filtz, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from July 2006 to July 2010. Matthew talked about his military service and how being involved in the Veteran’s Club’s philanthropic efforts is a continuation of that commitment to service. The Veteran’s Club gave away a $75 Bookstore gift card to a Davenport campus veteran during the event.
Colonel Arthur B. Cajigal, the First Army’s Command Surgeon at the Rock Island Arsenal, was the event’s featured guest speaker. Colonel Cajigal thanked the Palmer Clinics for providing complimentary care to active duty military members, their families and disabled veterans. He also spoke movingly about the sacrifice of military personnel who must be away from their families as well as the sacrifices made by family members while their loved ones are serving their country.
