As part of the renovations happening on campus, the archives materials that we keep in storage will be getting a new home!
We’re very excited for our new storage room, but before we move there are a lot of things that need to happen, so this blog is to let you in on some of the things happening behind the scenes to make this a seamless transition.
We have spent a lot of time assessing our collection, trying to determine what is moving where and when. We want everything to be accessible and logically arranged in the new space, which means getting it organized before the move.
We also want to make sure we are not bringing anything into our new room that isn’t archivally sound. To achieve this we have to swap out some old boxes that were considered safe when they were put into storage, but are no longer up to current archival standards. Rehousing archival materials is a delicate process, so we have spent many hours assembling new acid-free boxes, moving records over, and tearing down old boxes.
So if you try to visit the archives and find it closed, we’re probably working in our storage area. Please send us an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks for your patience and support during this period of transition for the archives!
