Gearing up for Playoff weekend

The men are working hard, getting in additional practices in the mornings while holding their regular afternoon workouts the last two weeks. The much needed work is in preperation for the upcoming playoff weekend. The team is coming in short handed as the injuries mounted over a crazy spring season that saw games snowed out early and late. Coach Luke Stringer is working hard to have the boys ready for the weekend.

We’ll keep you posted via are website and email with the results from Virginia Beach. Game time Saturday is 11 am.

All Iowa Cancelled due to weather

The All Iowa rugby tournament was cancelled this past weekend due to over eight inches of snow in Iowa Falls. The union has re-scheduled the event for September which mean’s Palmer will most likely not be able to participate due to league scheduling. We do look forward to competing for the title once again in 2014.

Next up for the men is the sweet 16 in Virginia Beach this upcoming weekend. The women are done for the season.

Mix results over the weekend for the Men’s and Women’s clubs in Des Moines. The men were handed a 75- 5 defeat by Metro in their seeding game for the sweet 16. The men will take on Boston at 9 am in Virginia Beach for the sweet 16 this year.

Our women defeated host Des Moines but lost to Minneapolis prior to the men’s game.

2013 Raffle Winner

Congratulations to Dr. Mike Taxler, the winner of the 2013 rugby raffle. Dr. Mike was present at the drawing held at our banquet during the David D. Palmer Alumni trust symposium. Dr. Mike will choose from a week in the Pocono’s(where Dr. Hatley, 2012 winner vacationed) or the Jersey Shore.

Special thanks to Jim Fitzgerald’s parents who donated their vacation homes for the raffle these past two years, raising money for the rugby club.

Big weekend of rugby in Davenport

Palmer hosted the women’s Midwest LAU u23 tournament this past weekend. With eight teams from seven states representing the best players from their area, it was a great recruiting opportunity. We also had the men’s select teams from Iowa and Minnesota play as well.

Our women’s team was able to play the Wisconsin select while our men’s b-side played the Augustana-St. Ambrose collegiate side, both teams won big. Unfortunately, our men’s A side game with the Omaha Goats was cancelled at the last minute by the GOATS.

Up next is the Midwest Championship game for the men versus Metro while the women will take on Des Moines. Both games are next Saturday in Des Moines. The women kickoff at 1:00 pm followed by the men’s match at the Des Moines RFC field.

PCCRFC Men heading back to Sweet 16

Palmer men secured another spot in USA rugby’s sweet 16 with its win this past Saturday. The men will face Metro, also winners on Saturday on April 27th, site to be determined to decide who has the number one seed heading in to the playoffs. The sweet 16 will be held in Virginia Beach, VA May 18th and 19th.

Both teams will play this weekend at during the David D. Palmer Athletic Trust sports symposium. It’s not to late to sign up. Visit either the teams website or the alumni trust site to register.

The women will play at 1:00 pm followed by the men’s game. Both games will be at Centennial Park in downtown Davenport.

Big weekend of rugby, change of venue

Both the men’s and women’s teams play at home this weekend. Both games were originally scheduled to be played at Centennial Park in downtown Davenport but we’ve decided to move the games to our traditional field at Northwest Park.

The men are hosting the Midwest Championships. The schedule is:
1:00 pm Metro v Chicago Griffins
3:00 pm Palmer v Chicago Lions
Sunday
11:00 am losers will meet
1:00 pm winners will meet

The women open their season at 11:00 am facing the Wisconsin Womens Rugby Club.

Palmer win second outing

Palmer men win 22-12 in St. Louis versus the Bombers. Next up is the Midwest Championships next Saturday and Sunday in Davenport. Palmer will play the second match on Saturday when they face the Chicago Lions. The first game of the day at 1:00 pm will see Metro take on the Chicago Griffins. The winners and losers will face of on Sunday.

Men’s game moved to Davenport on the 23rd

Our men’s game scheduled for this Saturday with Milwaukee is going to be moved to Davenport. Game time for the A side is 1:00 pm followed by the develpment side game. The games will be played at Northwest Park in Davenport.
