West campus celebrates 142nd graduation
Palmer College of Chiropractic’s West campus in San Jose, Calif., celebrated its 142nd graduation at the Summer Quarter ’17 commencement ceremony on September 14 in the Santa Clara Convention Center theater.
Janet Jun (College Park, Md.) and Britta Conlon (Portland, Ore.) graduated as class valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, with Summa Cum Laude (3.9 – 4.0) academic honors.
Brendon Casey (Canton, New York), Hailey Descoteaux (Spokane, Wash.), Michael Rosson (Murrieta, Ga.) and Raymond San Agustin (Calgary, Alb., Canada) graduated with Cum Laude (3.50 – 3.69) honors.
Jun and Conlon also earned Presidential Scholar awards, which are presented to members of the class who achieved Dean’s List (3.50 GPA or above) honors in each of their 13 quarters of study at Palmer’s West campus.
Osama Kassab (Littleton, Colo.) received the Clinical Excellence Award.
The Clinical Excellence Award-winner is selected by the clinical professors. The award recognizes the member of the graduating class who has uniquely distinguished him- or herself during the internship portion of their educational experience at Palmer by performing the tasks of the student doctor with exceptional proficiency in the following categories: patient diagnosis, chiropractic technique, radiography, and case management.
Raymond San Agustin received the Virgil. V. Strang Philosophy Award. The winner is selected by a faculty panel and the award is presented for “distinctive accomplishment and contributions to the philosophical principles of chiropractic as a student at Palmer College’s West campus.”
Christopher Sokolick (East Palestine, Ohio) received the Student Fellowship Award, which is presented “in recognition of service and leadership while upholding the values of his or her class, college and profession.”
Britta Conlon, Hailey Descoteaux and Janet Jun also received special awards recognizing their service as executive officers of the West campus student-chapter of the American Chiropractic Association (SACA).
West campus 2004 alumnus Brant Pedersen, D.C., CCSP® , who maintains a practice at Positive Motion Chiropractic in Los Gatos, presented the commencement address, “Dream, Believe, Create: Embarking on the Career of Your Dreams.”
