Project Renewal and OP3 rededicate park
On July 11, Palmer students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni celebrated the renewal of Sister Concetta Park with other donors and supporters of Operation Palmer Promotes Play (OP3). OP3 is a student-led philanthropic organization that has raised $67,000 since January 2013 to completely refurbish the downtown Davenport park. Sister Concetta Park is owned and used regularly by the children, staff and volunteers of Project Renewal, located across the street. Project Renewal, which provides a safe haven along with educational and recreational programs for neighborhood children, also celebrated its 40th anniversary July 11.
The renewal of the park included regrading a section and laying sod for an athletic field, adding a new patio/performance space plus landscaping and installing new playground equipment. Kids from Project Renewal were on hand for the rededication and their thank-you notes were read during the ceremony.
